NILES – Cassopolis coach Randy Brooks has announced his resignation as varsity softball coach.
Brooks led the Lady Rangers to back-to-back district championships, the schools first ever regional championship and its first trip to the Final four in Battle Creek.
The Lady Rangers were 33-10 this past season and 90-56 in his four seasons.
"I told the girls last night," Brooks said of his decision. "I'm going to watch my daughter play softball. She goes to a different school and I just want to be a dad.
"It was great. The kids were great. Overall, just working with the kids was very enjoyable. I liked working with the kids at Dowagiac and I liked working with the kids at Cass," he added.
Brooks, who has a career mark of 504-218, said that he always wanted to see if he could turn a program around.
"Being able to accomplish personal goals was nice," he said.
Brooks also thanked his assistants Doug Wyant, Ryan Frontczak and son Ryan Brooks.
"That's part of the fun," Brooks said, "the friends you make. Doug Wyant had been with the program five or six years. Ryan was with us the past three years and my son helped out full-time this year."
