To the editor:
Monday morning, my good buddy Larry Clymer passed away. I consider myself blessed to have had his counsel over the years and I know I am one of many who counted him as a friend. You see, Larry was more than just a county commissioner and former mayor of Niles. He loved southwest Michigan and dedicated himself to making it a better place. From his countless letters as mayor of Niles to his devotion to public safety as county commissioner to his recent Clymer's Corner community radio program on WDOW in Dowagiac, Larry treasured the opportunity to promote our area and build up the people he interacted with. He was the very definition of a people person, someone who was able to use humor to treat a wide variety of problems. Berrien County has lost a longtime leader and Niles has lost a tireless advocate.
Whether you had the chance to meet Larry Clymer in person or just saw his smiling face in the paper from time to time, you couldn't help but smile back. Our sympathy and gratitude go out to his wife, mother, and his two sons and their families. Thank you for allowing your husband, son, father, and grandfather to serve as a wonderful example to the rest of us of what a pubic servant is.
