EDWARDSBURG – For the past two weeks, members of Scott Teter's campaign committee, Citizens to Elect Scott Teter Judge, have been distributing campaign signs to residents of Cass County who want to show their support for Teter's campaign to be elected Fourth District Court Judge by displaying the signs.
While typically a fun and universally accepted part of the campaign process in general, the recent display of bright yellow campaign signs supporting Teter has been met with a cowardly response by some in the community who oppose Teter's campaign.
Sometime between June 11 and June 12, a campaign sign placed on Decatur Road by Teter's supporters was vandalized with spray paint. Several other signs showing support for Teter's campaign were also vandalized in Edwardsburg between June 1 and June 5.
Vandalism of the signs is not surprising to members of the campaign committee, but is nonetheless disappointing.
They understand why the criminal element in our county would be working against Teter's election as he has an established track record of holding them accountable.
They are sure they would be more comfortable with a defense attorney on the bench as his or her perspective and professional experience is totally different than that of a former prosecutor.
While they are entitled to their opinion as to whom they would prefer to be elected District Court Judge, the damage to the campaign signs is a criminal act.
Therefore, a police report has been filed regarding the vandalism of the signs and they are offering a $200 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for these crimes.
"We will not allow criminals to determine the outcome of this election," members of the campaign said.
If you have any information regarding who damaged the campaign signsyou may be eligible for the reward, please contact the Cass County Sheriff's Department at (269) 445-8644.
