MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The high school coaching career of Niles' Jim Arnold was extended one more game on Tuesday as Michigan blew out Indiana West 90-78 in Sports Fest girls' basketball at Bethel College.
Former Benton Harbor standout Courntey Webb scored a game-high 24 points to lead the All-Stars into Friday night's championship game against Indiana East at 6 p.m.
Michigan canned 11 3-pointers and dominated the backboards, outrebounding Indiana West 41-30.
The All-Stars, behind a combined 23 points from Webb and Sturgis' Astynn George, raced out to a 44-28 halftime lead and never looked back.
Indiana West would close the gap to 57-49 with 12:45 to play in the contest before Michigan went on a 12-2 run to put the game away.
George finished with 15 points, while Edwardsburg's Stephanie Koontz and Niles' Courtney Teske added 11 and 10 points respectively. Koontz also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for the All-Stars.
Dowagiac's Katy Stuppy ended with six points, Buchanan's Emily Ross, who played in the softball game earlier in the day, finished with five. Buchanan's Hayley Cashier and Brandywine's Katie Smallwood scored three and two points.
Indiana West was led by Plymouth's Leslie Swihart and Jessica Centa, who scored 23 and 19 points. Oregon-Davis' Lauren Kuss added 10.
Like Ross, Centa played in the All-Star softball game earlier in the day and helped lead Indiana West to a 9-2 victory with a triple and a home run (see related story).
