‘Thursdays at the Museum’ summer series starts June 12

BERRIEN SPRINGS – The History Center at Courthouse Square begins its "Thursdays at the Museum" summer program series on June 12 at 6:30 p.m. with "Lest We Forget" by program organizer Don Alsbro.
The program will be held at the History Center (Courthouse Museum) at 313 N. Cass St. in Berrien Springs.
Admission is free.
Alsbro will describe the upcoming weekend of World War II re-enactment and patriotic events in St Joseph and Benton Harbor on June 19-22.
Activities will include re-enactment beach landings of D-Day and Peleliu Island at Tiscornia Beach, a military vehicle show and parade through the Twin Cities and parachute flag drop.
Military aircraft on display will include B-17, B-25 and C-47 from World War II, a Vietnam medevac helicopter, a C130 H cargo plane, a Blackhawk helicopter and other warbirds.
A special highlight will be a USO show featuring the Andrews Sisters (re-enactors) and a USO dance.
Personal appearances will be made by Bob Heft (designer of the 50-star U.S. flag), Rick Plummer (portraying World War II correspondent Ernie Pyle) and LTG Robert Van Antwerp.
Alsbro describes the event as educational and the largest of its kind in southwest Michigan.
