NILES – One of the newest members of the Four Flags Chamber of Commerce is now in its third generation.
The first generation of Williams Hi-Tech Roofing started in 1954.
Albert Williams began roofing as an apprentice union roofer in Rockford, Ill.
He moved to Dowagiac in 1959 and took a job at Rudy Manufacturing in the maintenance shop and begin doing in- shop roof repairs and roofing out side the shop for others.
In 1971, He started his own commercial roofing business here in Dowagiac, completing many roof projects in this area, as well as out-of-town projects in surrounding cities as far away as Chicago, Toledo, Grand Rapids and Detroit.
Albert retired in 1999 after having heart bypass surgery.
However, this retirement did not last long, as old dad's advice was sought after as each son begins to build his business.
Albert has four sons who grew up actively involved in the roofing trade. Today they are still active in this trade, as are two grandsons. These sons moved to a southern location to expand their working season.
Three of them now have their own commercial roofing businesses.
Albert has been actively involved as a consultant with each of his sons, as well as field supervisor, overseeing projects in many locations, including North Carolina, Kansas, Tennessee, Indiana, Missouri and Pennsylvania.
In 2007, Albert completed a re-certification in the ever-evolving single membrane roofing field.
Tim Williams, a lifelong native of Dowagiac and one of Albert's grandsons, has worked many years with both his father and grandfather and had a desire to follow in the family tradition of ownership.
Tim created "Williams Hi-Tech Roofing" and is utilizing the many years of experience available to him by working with his grandfather.
Tim has the years of combined knowledge available to him, as well as the potential of bringing in a crew and equipment from his uncles if the need should arise. Therefore, no project would be too big or too small.
He offers consulting service, in-depth roof analysis, including deck type, insulation R value, number of roofs in place and roof condition. For more information call (269) 782-3729.
