Second annual Elks Soccer Shoot Saturday at Plym
NILES – The second annual Elks Soccer Shoot will take place at Plym Park on Saturday between 10 a.m. and noon.
The Elks Soccer Shoot program consists of two separate contests for different age groups. The contests test levels of soccer goal kicking skills.
The Five Goal Contest is for boys and girls aged 4-9. It consists of a series of five goals, decreasing in size from 48 inches to 17 inches.
The age groups that use these goals are divided into two categories – U8 is for all ages four to seven, and the U10 group is for ages eight and nine. Boys and girls shoot separately. The U8 contestants kick from 15 feet from the face of the goal, while the U10 contestants kick from 18 feet from the goal.
The Grid Goal Contest is for boys and girls age 10 through 13. It consists of a full-size goal sectioned off so points can be scored when the ball is kicked into certain sections.
The age groups that use this goal are U12, which is for ages 10 and 11 and U14, which is for ages 12 and 13. Again, boys and girls shoot separately.
All entrants will receive a participation award. Medals will be given in each category for first, second and third place (girls and boys awarded separately).
An outdoor lunch will be provided by the Elks for all participants immediately following the contest. Medals will be presented at the Elk's Lodge during the lunch.
There is no entry fee for participation. All Michigan residents that fall within the specified age groups are encouraged to attend.
