Bryan Clapper has been named general manager of Leader Publications. He succeeds Jan Griffey, who has been named the associate publisher and editor of the Suffolk (Va.) News-Herald.
Clapper has worked in various news, editorial and management positions during his newspaper career, most recently as the managing editor of the Austin (Minn.) Daily Herald. Leader Publications and the Austin Daily Herald are both owned by Boone Newspapers Inc.
"I am excited to learn everything I can about the Niles, Dowagiac and surrounding areas, and eager to get out and meet people in our communities," Clapper said. "We have a core of great products and a talented staff."
Clapper is a native of St. Paul, Minn., and has worked throughout Minnesota and North Dakota. He met the staff last Thursday and began work today.
Griffey, who began work in Suffolk on Monday, will be responsible for development of the News-Herald's zoned editions, online news and audience development.
