Brandywine advances several to quarterfinals

EAST LANSING – The Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 Girls Tennis Finals will conclude today at Michigan State University.
In the opening round at No. 1 singles, Buchanan's Courtney Miller was defeated by Laruen Munroe of North Muskegon, while Brandywine's Amelia Harrison won her opening round match over Lauren Russell of Essexville Garber, but lost in the second round to No. 5 seeded Kathleen Hawkins of Kalamazoo Hackett.
At No. 2 singles, Brandywine's Brittney Patterson reached the quarterfinals with a first round bye and then a victory over Halley Shawbilz of Saginaw Nouvel.
Buchanan's Kristine Gordon was defeated in the first round by Sally Kueffner of Frankenmuth.
Joey Dreitzler of Buchanan was defeated in the second round at No. 3 singles by Almont's Claire Turvill, who was seeded No. 6. Dreitzler had a first round bye.
Brandywine's Aubrey Espick received a first round bye before being defeated in the second round by No. 2 seed Gretchen Berkemeier of Jackson Lumen Christi.
At No. 4 singles, Ariel Prescott reached the quarterfinals after defeating Sara Brown of Kalamazoo Hackett in the second round.
Prescott had a first round bye.
Buchanan's Kirsten Smallwood also had a first round bye and then was defeated by Portland's Ellee Eldridge.
In doubles action, Buchanan's Samantha Haner and Ashley Devereaux dropped their first round match at No. 3 doubles to Sydney Batts and Brianna Bunker of Kalamazoo Christian.
Brandywine's Katie Irons and Ashley Light also reached the quarterfinals with an opening round bye and then a win over Ashley Breza and Molly Marlatt of Frankenmuth.
Brandywine's Lauren Leonard and Brooke Ford advanced to the quarterfinals at No. 4 doubles with a first round bye and a victory over Holly Hanson and Sierra Grant of Almont.
Buchanan's Aleischa Shepherd and Marina Ivanova were defeated in their first round match by Allison Tillman and Justine Miller of Saginaw Nouvel.
