Niles golf team finishes eighth at Division 2 regional tourney

NILES – The golf season for the Niles varsity came to an end on Thursday at the Division 2 Regional at Stonehege Golf Course.
The Vikings finished eighth with a team score of 325.
Battle Creek Lakeview shot 303 to win the regional championship.
Dexter finished second with a 305 and St. Joseph took third with a 306.
The top three teams advance to the state finals.
Adrian's Alex Wilnow shot 71 to earn medalist honors.
The Vikings were led by Chris Noble's 79. Niles also got an 80 from Jeff Jurgonski, an 81 from Alex Welch, an 85 from Brett Phillips and an 88 from David Neumann.
"I told the kids I've got three seniors here and two more back at home, so lets see if we can continue this one more week," Niles coach Greg Gunder said. "They gave it their heart and soul. I know they will be thinking about a shot here or a shot there that they could have played better, but when they look at the overall picture, I think they will remember that they had a good time."
Edwardsburg's Chris Eaton shot 77, the third best score out of the individuals that qualified for the regional according to Eddies' coach Jeff Kozinski.
Eaton did not advance to the state finals.
