Marie P. Huff, 89, of Eau Claire, died at her home on Tuesday, May 27, 2008.
Her family will gather with friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLauchlin-Clark Funeral Home in Dowagiac, where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 30 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Niles led by Father David Otto.
She will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery in Dowagiac.
Her life began on Oct. 28, 1918 in Dowagiac, the daughter of John and Louise (Krauss) Hughes. She was a 1935 graduate of Dowagiac Central High School and continued her education at County Normal.
She was a school teacher for a short time; she worked in Chicago for three years, Rudy Manufacturing and as an accountant for 36 years.
She was the Silver Creek Township Treasurer for 23 years. Marie was a parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Niles. She loved to collect antiques and work in her garden. She was adamant about raking her leaves and shooing the geese off of her lawn.
She was united in marriage to Walter Huff on May 23, 1945 and enjoyed 63 wonderful years together.
Her loving family includes her sister, Ethel Brosnan of California; nieces, Patty White of California, Patricia Bousman of Ohio, Beatrice Stockwell of Arizona, Betty Lillie and Christine Hughes, both of Dowagiac; nephews David Rank of Dowagiac, Steve Rank of White Pigeon, Gary Huff of Marcellus; several great nieces and nephews and her dear neighbor JoEllen (Dan) White.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Huff; sisters, Catherine Jacobs and Louise Huff and brothers, John Hughes, Jim Hughes and Eugene Hughes.
Memorial contributions in her name are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic School or Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice.
