Soccer, baseball, softball tournaments begin

Top-ranked Niles and arch rival Lakeshore will kick off the Division 2 Michigan High School Athletic Association District Softball Tournament in Edwardsburg today.
The Lady Vikings and Lady Lancers will play a pre-district contest at Edwardsburg High School today at 4:30 p.m.
The host Lady Eddies, Dowagiac and St. Joseph all drew first round byes.
Dowagiac and St. Joseph will meet in the first semifinal at 10 a.m. on Saturday, while the winner of the Niles-Lakeshore contest will advance to the second semifinal against Edwardsburg.
That game will be played 30 minutes after the completion of the first semifinal game.
The championship game is slated for 30 minutes after the second semifinal game is completed.
Baseball
Lakeshore and Niles will square off in baseball as well today at 4:30 p.m.
The winner of the pre-district game will take on Edwardsburg in the first semifinal on May 31 at 10 a.m. Dowagiac and St. Joseph will face each other in the second semifinals, 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.
The championship game is slated for 30 minutes after the second semifinal game is completed.
Soccer
Dowagiac will host the opening round of the Division 3 District Soccer Tournament.
Buchanan will take on the Chieftains at 5 p.m. today.
In other first round matches, Edwardsburg is hosting South Haven at 5 p.m.
The winners advanced to Thursday's semifinals, which will be held in South Haven. The first semifinal is slated for 5 p.m. and the second match at 7.
The championship will be played at 6 p.m. on Saturday in South Haven.
