BUCHANAN – The Edwardsburg girls and Berrien Springs boys captured Lakeland Conference championship Tuesday night at the league meet at Buchanan High School.
The Lady Eddies scored 142 points to easily outdistance runner-up Berrien Springs, which finished with 126 points. The host Lady Bucks took third with 79.5 points.
In the boys' portion of the meet, the Shamrocks rolled to an easy victory as well, scoring 132 points to just 99 by second place finisher Bridgman. Defending conference champion Brandywine finished third with 98 points.
Winning conference championships for the Edwardsburg girls' team were Jenna Martin in the high jump (4-8), Stephanie Koontz in the long jump (15-0) and discus (105-7), Lanie Ford in the shot put (33-1.75), Erin Eggleston in the 100 (17.05) and 300 (48.90) hurdles and a pair of relay teams.
The Lady Eddies captured the 3,200- and 1,600-meter relays with times of 10:46.2 and 4:27.82 respectively.
The 3,200-meter unit consisted of Kaitlyn Buzalski, Kim Billings, Veronica Brubacher and Ellen Miller, while the 1,600-meter squad was made up of Eggleston, Billings, Bridget Patzer and Miller.
Buchanan had one conference champion as Torrie Eger won the 3,200-meters with a time of 12:36.65.
Buchanan finished third in the overall standings and Brandywine eighth.
Brandywine had one champion in the boys' meet as Bryton Hutchings backed up his regional championship with a leap of 12-feet.
Brandywine tied with Bridgman for second in the final conference standings, while Buchann was fourth. Edwardsburg and Cassopolis finished fifth and sixth.
