George W. Minard, Jr., 71, of West Park Street, Niles, died at 3:35 p.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at Halbritter Funeral Home Niles, with the Rev. Carl W. Bassett of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.
Friends may call for one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
He was born on April 9, 1937, in Newark, N.J., to George W. Minard, Sr. and Mary Pavao and has lived in Michiana for 38 years, coming from Dover, Del.
He owned and operated Brandywine Claims, South Bend, Ind.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961 and was a member of American Legion Post No. 26, Niles. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Blue Goose, South Bend, Ind. and a member of Adjusters Association, South Bend, Ind.
He loved to play golf and was member of the Juday Golf Course, Granger, Ind.
On Oct. 5, 1974, in Niles, he married Carol M. (Lepel) Minard, who survives.
Surviving family includes a step-son, David E. (Sue) Stark of Niles; step-daughter, Pam S. (Duane) Meyers of Niles; a grandson, Travis (Tania) Meyers of Niles; granddaughter, Nicki (Kevin) Deming of Niles; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Mallory Meyers and Tyler and Drew Deming; a brother, Richard (Jane) Minard of Charles Town, W.V. and a sister, Nancy Hivley of New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Minard.
Memorials may be made to Saint Paul's Lutheran Church, Niles or to the donor's choice.
