BATTLE CREEK – The Niles varsity golf team finished fifth at the Battle Creek Lakeview Invitational held at Cedar Creek on Friday.
The first five finishers were separated by a mere three strokes and two of the positions had to be decided by the fifth and sixth man tiebreakers.
Marshall edged out Lakeview and Grand Ledge due to the fifth man tiebreaker after all three teams shot 308.
Niles and Holt tied at 311, but needed the sixth man's score to decide who would get fourth place.
Chris Noble and Alex Welch both won medals as they finished in the top 10.
Nobel shot 73 to take fourth place, while Welch tied for seventh with his round of 76. Niles also got a 79 from David Neumann, an 83 from Nick Musser, an 84 from Jeff Jurgonski and an 86 from Brett Phillips.
