Living in the fruit belt in Michigan has its advantages, but not everyone realizes the benefits of shopping at your neighborhood farm market.
These vegetables are the freshest they can be, with asparagus just picked having the best taste possible. For those who wish to can or fresh produce for their families, what could be better.
When you go looking for vegetables you will find an array of other products, such as farm fresh organic pork, homemade soups and breads and other tasty treats.
Many of the local markets are also a way for our area artists to display their creations. You would be amazed at the variety of beautiful items you can purchase for your home.
The end of May marks the opening of many of these markets.
In Buchanan, the market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Like many of the market, they now have a theme each month. May is gardening with plants, hanging baskets, bird houses and outdoor furniture. June's theme will be health and beauty.
Niles' Bensidoun French Market will be opening for its third season on Thursday, May 22, and will again be located at the corner of Front and Main streets, near the Main Street bridge in downtown. The Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday and Saturday through Oct. 4.
This open air Market is designed to showcase the finest that our local farmers and small businesses have to offer, including fruits, vegetables, fresh breads and cheeses as well as flowers, handcrafted jewelry, handmade soaps and lotions, and more.
Farm-fresh produce and luscious, sun-ripened fruit are only steps away at the Dowagiac Farm Market, located in the downtown at Main and Front streets. The finest selections are available on Mondays and Thursdays, from June through August.
Cassopolis too has a market each Saturday along the scenic Stone Lake.
The Cassopolis Farmer's Market will open the market on Saturday, May 24 and will run every Saturday until Labor Day weekend, from 8:30 a..m. to 12:30 p.m.
