For the last time this year the Dowagiac varsity golf team played two.
The Chieftains and the nine other teams from the Wolverine Conference teed off one hour late, and in a steady morning Wednesday rain.
After the first nine holes at the Gull Lake golf course, the Chieftains ended up finishing fifth with a score of 179.
Freshman Chris Craft was the first half medalist with a score of 39. His teammates supported his effors by posting scores of 44 by freshman Max Howe; and seniors Kevin Proshwitz, and Nick Krizinski, who fired scores of 45 and 51 respectivly.
Instead of rushing off to the next jamboree, the team met and discussed the next course, and removed wet gear, which consisted of most everything and passed it to Mr. and Mrs Frank Krizinski, who spent their lunch hour in the first laundrymat they could find to dry the soaked gear.
A hour and a half later and in dry clothes, the team teed off at Gull Lake Views Stonehendge Course.
Once the rain stopped and the smoke cleared the Chieftains finished this half with a score of 162 good enough for a third place finish behind Gull Lake's effort of 151.
"The afternoon round is the type of play that we have been getting in practice and it came to the forefront finally in a match," Dowagiac coach Van Johnson said.
Chris Craft led the Chieftains again with another fine effort of 39, while the other three team members of Krizinski, Prowhwitz, and Howe posted scores of 41.
"The team finds itself short-handed with the departure from the team of Jared Schinski, but is looking to get help from either Andrew Seurynck, Andrew Cripe or Kyle Ward to fill the fifth spot for the conference and district tournaments, which are fastly approching," Johnson added.
Correction
The scores reported to the Daily News from the Schoolcraft Invitational were incorrect.
The correct scores were Nick Krizinski with an 84, Kevin Proshwitz and Max Howe with 90s and Chris Craft with a 91.
