COLOMA – Zach Edquist singled home Jake Harris in the top of the seventh to give Brandywine a 1-0 victory in the opening game of its Lakeland Conference showdown with Coloma on Tuesday.
The No. 1 ranked Bobcats won the second game 6-2 to remain in first place in the league.
After taking the one-run lead in the top half of the seventh inning, Brandywine needed a great defensive play in the bottom half of the frame to earn the win.
Dan Reidenbach hit Jesse McCombs with a relay throw to cut down the tying run at the plate. Bobcats' catcher Cam Ondresky applied the tag and Brandywine escaped with the dramatic win.
Taylor Ort improved to 6-0 as he scattered five hits.
The Bobcats finished with six hits, including a pair by Ondresky.
The nightcap was not quite as exciting as the Bobcats scored two runs in the second and third innings and two more in the sixth.
Coloma grabbed a 2-0 lead after one inning of play, but would not dent the scoreboard again.
Jake Harris moved to 5-0 on the season as he went the distance.
The Bobcats (18-2, 9-1 Lakeland) finished with nine hits.
McCombs finished with a pair of doubles, while Dominique Pompey doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Reidenbach doubled and singled for Brandywine, which also got two RBIs from Noah Udell.
