NILES – The winning streak for the Niles junior varsity baseball team has now reached 15 games following a sweep of visiting South Bend (Ind.) Adams on Saturday at Thomas Stadium.
The Vikings won the opening game 11-6 and then blanked the Eagles 12-0 in the second game.
Adams took advantage of a slow start for the Vikings to grab a 5-4 lead after four innings of play.
Niles exploded to seven runs in the fifth inning to take control of the contest.
Ricky Briand then slammed the door on the Eagles to earn the save. Justin Frederick picked up the victory in relief. It was his first win of the season.
Briand and David Garner both hit home runs and Kyle Ballge added a double as the Vikings finished with six hits.
In the second game, the Niles bats remained red-hot.
The Vikings (15-1) scored in every inning to blow out the Eagles.
Briand earned the victory, his second of the year, as he tossed a two-hitter with five strikeouts.
Aaron Davis was 3-for-4 for Niles, including a double and a triple. Alex Bellaire homered, while Briand and Garner both doubled.
Niles, which travels to Mattawan on Tuesday, finished with 11 hits.
