To the editor:
Why is education so important for a community? The reward for the community who expands their education is business and community growth. I can tell you that the formula really works. So I know the formula from personal experience, and on a professional level. We have to be patient and trust our educational leaders.
I am running for the Niles School board on May 6, because I believe that education is the most important legacy a community can give to their children. Unfortunately the state of Michigan gives us a limited amount of funds. Our job as a school board member is to insure our superintendent and his team allocates the money to the goals and wishes of the community.
Because of the funding issue we have had to make several cuts that have affected our team. Among these cuts were the bus drivers and cafeteria workers. Our goal was for all of them to keep their jobs; even then we were forced to reduce some of their benefits. Our main focus was to keep the quality of education at a competitive level.
On May 6 you have to choose two candidates for the Niles School board. I am one of four generations who have graduated from the Niles School system. I have had seven years experience on the board and this with my business background I think I am qualified to be one of those candidates. When you vote for your candidate I hope your two votes are for the candidates who focus their attention on a quality education.
I would like your support on May 6, 2008
