NILES – The Niles freshmen baseball team swept a doubleheader from visiting Vicksburg at Champs Field on Thursday.
The Vikings won the first game 6-3 and then completed the sweep with a 6-2 win in the nightcap.
Justin Hughes tossed a complete game to earn the win in the opener.
The Vikings got hits from Tyler Fisher, Riley Robson, Hughes and Cody Taggart.
In the second contest, Nick Lucero picked up the win with Taggart coming on in the fifth to close out the contest.
Top hitters were Lucero, Robbie Legus and Nathaniel Oats.
Niles will be hosting an invitational on Saturday at Champs Field.
Competing along with the Vikings will be Mishawaka, Lakeshore and Vicksburg.
Niles will play Lakeshore at 9 a.m, while Mishawaka will play Vicksburg at 11 a.m. The consolation and championship games will be played in the afternoon.
