NILES – Visiting South Bend Adams was a bit too much for Brandywine's varsity softball team Thursday afternoon.
Adams blanked they Lady Bobcats 5-0 in the opening game and then romped to a 20-3 victory in five innings in the nightcap.
The twin losses dropped Brandywine's record to 10-8, while South Bend Adams improved to 11-5 on the year.
Lady Eagles coach John Woodruff picked up his 400th career victory in the opening game.
Jessica Hull tossed a two-hitter for Adams in the first contest.
Becky Modlin had one of those hits off Hull, a double.
Kendra Zache suffered the loss. Zache gave up eight hits, while the Lady Bobcats made two errors behind her. None of Adams' five runs were earned. Zache struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Adams opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Eagles followed that up with three runs in the fifth to complete the scoring.
A pair of seven run innings lifted Adams to victory in the second game.
After grabbing a 2-0 lead after a half inning, Adams gave up three runs to the Lady Bobcats in the bottom of the frame to fall behind 3-2.
A seven-run third inning, followed up by a four-run fourth and a seven-run fifth, to end the game via the mercy rule.
Kristina Ford took the loss for Brandywine. Angela Gillis tossed a three-hitter for the Lady Eagles. Only six of the Lady Eagles' 20 runs were earned. Ford struck out two.
Brooke Coshow had the lone highlight for the Lady Bobcats in the nightcap as she hit a home run.
