ELKHART, Ind. – Elkhart Civic Theatre announces auditions for Seussical the Musical, a show for all ages based on the works of Dr. Seuss.
Youth auditions, for performers 8 to 14 years old, will be held Saturday, May 17 at 10:00 a.m. Auditions for those 15 and up will be Sunday, May 18 at 3:00 p.m., and Tuesday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. All Seussical auditions will take place at the Bristol Opera House, 210 East Vistula Street (S.R. 120), in downtown Bristol, Indiana.
Seussical the Musical brings to life on the stage some of Seuss' most beloved characters: Horton, JoJo, Gertrude McFuzz, The Whos, The Sour Kangaroo, General Schmitz, and the Cat in the Hat. When Horton finds the tiny world of Who floating through the air, he vows to save the Whos from extinction, no matter what trials and hardships he might face. Through his kindness and adventures we find that "a person's a person, no matter how small." With exciting music of all styles–from Rock and Roll to Blues to Ragtime–Seussical is a great showcase for all vocal types.
Seussical will be directed by ECT Artistic Director John Shoup, with musical direction by Brian Mast and choreography by Lynette Votava. Performances will be August 1st and 2nd at 7:30 p.m. and August 3rd at 3:00 p.m. at the Elco Performing Arts Center.
Approximately 65-80 performers are needed, including: 1 boy (age 8 to 14) for JoJo; 1 woman or man (age 18-?) for the Cat in the Hat; 20 men (ages 15 to 80); 20 women (ages 15 to 80); and 30-40 children (ages 8-14).
All auditioners will be asked to learn a portion of a song at the audition, followed by a short dance audition and cold readings from the script. Please bring a list of all conflicts from June 9 to August 3, 2008.
Stage technicians, props people, costumers and set construction volunteers are also needed. If you have questions about the auditions, would like to read a script, or if you are interested in volunteering to help on the show, please call John Shoup at 848-5853, or go to www.elkhartcivictheatre.org
