The annual competition host's both national as well international teams from as far away as California and South Korea respectively. The Viking Robotics Team competed in the VEX Pentathlon Division. This five-event division consists of a Skeeball, 1600 Meter Dash, Tug of War, Slam Dunk and Bottle Bowling contest for robots constructed from VEX Robotics parts.
The Vikings best showing came in the Tug of War event where they placed third overall, losing only two matches throughout the one day competition, with their final loss coming at the hands of the eventual overall championship team – Nak Saeng from South Korea.
"It was a great experience and learning opportunity for our team to participate in this event. It gives us a lot of momentum for next year with our returning underclassmen," said Viking Coach Steve Karsten the Electronics and Robotics teacher at the Niles High School.
