NILES – "Trading Places: Journeying with our Parents into Their Old Age," a free course on caregiving aimed at Baby Boomers, the Sandwich Generation, and those caring for older adults will start in Niles this week.
The program runs for three weeks beginning May2, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Greater Niles-Buchanan Senior Center. There is no charge to attend, but donations will be gratefully accepted.
The curriculum deals with a variety of issues that caregivers face, like the cost of care, communication, and dealing with emotional issues.
The program will be taught by Dona Billey-Weiler, Life Enrichment Director at the Cass County Council on Aging, and is presented as a cooperative effort between the COA and the Region IV Area Agency on Aging.
The course will be repeated beginning May 15 in Paw Paw. For more information or to register for the class, call (269) 445-8110 or (800) 323-0390.
For continuing caregiving training, Area Agency on Aging will be following this program with "Powerful Tools for Caregivers" starting June 2 which is intended for caregivers of the chronically ill or frail individual. Call (800) 717-3811 for more information on that program.
