Lady Vikings win 1-0

ST. JOSEPH – For the first time in school history, the Niles girls' varsity soccer team defeated St. Joseph on Wednesday night.
The Lady Vikings edged the Lady Bears 1-0 in a Big 16 Conference West Division showdown.
Niles' Brittany Molnar scored off an assist from Meagan Horn with 25:22 remaining in the opening half.
The Lady Vikings then turned it over to the defense to hold off St. Joseph.
"The entire team had great ball movement and played with a lot of poise," first-year coach Jo Schau said. "Our keeper made many outstanding saves to hold the shut-out. The win is a big step for our program and what we want to accomplish. The reality of hard work and dedication is all coming together."
Niles goalkeeper Autumn Lucero was credited with nine saves in the contest as the Lady Bears finished the night with 13 shots on goal.
The Lady Vikings had eight shots on goal.
The Niles junior varsity soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with the Lady Bears on Wednesday.
