BUCHANAN – Locating a library book used to be a chore. Remember that giant apothecary table filled with index cards reeking of old parchment? Remember the card catalog? Buchanan residents can finally say goodbye to that antiquated system. Thanks to the new user-friendly website found at: buchananlibrary.org, a book, movie or CD is just a few keystrokes away. But it doesn't end there.
The 'Bestsellers Club' is a way for library patrons to get the latest books from their favorite authors. Members of the club can submit the name of their favorite author or authors and the library will give notice by phone or e-mail when the title is available. Patrons can also reserve items through the online database as well as check the status of their accounts.
The Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is an initiative that gives young people an opportunity to explore their multimedia interests. The library has received a grant for two digital cameras that can be checked out by TAG members. The children can learn to be shutterbugs and get a chance to win a new camera in the library's digital storytelling competition. The TAG will have monthly meetings to discuss issues relevant to teens, the library and the community.
Director Kate Thomas said she is really excited about the new online aspect of the library as well as the TAG program adding, this is only the beginning of several patron focused improvements that will be made.
Thomas became the director in late February of this year and has been working hard on the new projects ever since.
