William H. Moneysmith Jr., 85, of Niles, died at his residence on Sunday, April 20, 2008, surrounded by his family.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment was held at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.
He was born on Oct. 13, 1922, in Niles to the late William H. Sr. and Louise Marie (Carpenter) Moneysmith.
After graduating from Niles High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marine Corps where he served his country proudly during World War II.
On Feb. 6, 1953 he married Evelyn Morros at a ceremony in Niles.
Mooneysmith was always busy and active, even after his retirement from Bendix, where he had worked for many years. He enjoyed boating, go-cart racing, TV repair, painting, drawing, sculpturing, and was an avid reader. He also enjoyed aviation and flying planes. He also was active in building and flying models.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Richard Moneysmith and a sister, Jean Mather.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Moneysmith of Niles; two daughters, Lucy Jo (John) Jann of Niles and Loretta Mattocks of Niles; three grandchildren, Rhonda (Dave) Witham of Niles, Laurie (James) Farris of Granger, Ind. and Pamela (Michael) Malisa of South Bend, Ind.; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
