Niles Little League opens season Saturday

NILES – Niles Little League (a division of Greater Niles Baseball) will launch the 2008 season this Saturday with their annual parade beginning at 9 a.m..
The parade will start at French Field and proceed south on State Street to the ballpark.
Opening day ceremonies will take place immediately afterwards. The baseball season will then begin with a new event this year as the Niles teams will face opponents from Buchanan on both the minor league field and the major league field.
The minor league will be represented by the Nationals (10:15 a.m.), the Cubs (noon) and the defending league champions, the Tigers (1:30 p.m.) playing against Buchanan minor teams.
The major league will be represented by the Orioles (10:15 a.m.), defending league champions Yankees (noon) and the Cardinals (1:30 p.m.) playing against Buchanan major teams.
The public is invited to attend all events.
Niles Little League games are played Monday thru Friday with Wednesdays reserved for rain days. Games begin at 5:30 p.m..
The season runs from April 26 through June 20 with playoffs for both the minor and major leagues taking place the week of June 23.
All-Star season begins immediately after the regular season playoffs.
There will be several opportunities to watch other District 15 teams play at Niles Little League this season.
