NILES – In observance of Earth Day, the First Presbyterian Church of Niles, located at 13 S. Fourth St., will celebrate Earth Stewardship Sunday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a member exhibition of nature-centered arts and crafts.
Open to the public, the Earth Sunday event will include photography, film, painting, ceramics, pottery, sculpture, writing and more … all utilizing natural materials and/or depicting nature.
The church will also promote reusing items during this event through their annual Used Book Sale. Most exhibits will be displayed in or near the church parlor. The parlor can be accessed directly from the parking lot near the corner of Broadway and 13th streets.
During Sunday school, which begins at 9 a.m., children will participate by making posters and playing nature/craft games. "A "nature game" sheet will be available for parents to help them guide their children on other nature ventures and learning experiences," said Merrill Clark, chair of the Earth Celebration event. They thank God's Green Earth for donating seed packets to the children, as well as loaning them a large potted tree.
Pastor Janet VanLear will lead the two April 27 worship services, beginning at 9 and 10:30 a.m. "The 10:30 a.m. service will feature John Rutter's "For the Beauty of the Earth" by the Sanctuary Choir," Clark said.
Those interested are encouraged to attend the worship service and stay for organic coffee and snacks around the Earth Stewardship Celebration exhibits and book sale.
