NILES – Senior living just got a little easier thanks to a new development by Lutheran Homes of Michigan.
Lexington Pointe at Longmeadow on Niles-Buchanan Road began constructing new condominium style homes last year for those 55 years of age and older.
On Friday morning, a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony was held, as well as an open house, which gave potential residents a chance to see what the new homes have to offer.
"Everything was designed to be wheel chair accessible. The floor plans feature large, wide open rooms and doorways. It's important for people to know that this is not assisted living, but these floor plans, as well as the yard maintenance we do, gives our residents a chance to stay in their own homes for the rest of their lives," Shelley Gates of Lutheran Homes said.
The condominiums available for viewing offered three different floor plans with one or two bedrooms. They also featured a basement and one featured an upstairs loft.
The Sunflower condo, for example, features nine-foot ceilings, a cultured marble faux granite in the bathrooms, an upgraded insulation package and a finished garage. The price of this condo is $163,988.
"Some people may think 'wow, that is a high price for a condo,' but so much comes along with what you are paying for," Gates said.
Along with yard maintenance, which includes mowing and the upkeep of flowers and snow removal, unique technologies will also be available, as well as wellness lifestyle opportunities, health promotions programs and on-site concierge services.
A large, natural setting provides plenty of room for walking, jogging and biking around the complex. A Club House will also be available in the near future.
"We're no where near being finished. This is the only the beginning," Gates said of the construction.
Lutheran Homes still plans to build another 29 units at Lexington Pointe.
"This is the new way to age. Seniors have the chance to live more independently here," Gates added.
Lutheran Homes of Michigan (LHM), developer of Lexington Pointe, is one of the largest non-profit, faith-based agencies in Michigan that provides residential living and skilled home care services of all faiths. Management of Lexington Pointe is under the direction of Lutheran Homes.
