NILES – A total of nine teachers are being recommended for tenure at tonight's Niles Community Schools Board of Education meeting, which will take place at Niles High School at 6 p.m.
Teachers up for tenure include: Joe Racht and Katherine Gassensmith (Howard); Denise Beckman and Heather Racht (Northside); Jennifer Howell (Oak Manor); Amy Barr, Steve Gruver and Anthony Short (Niles High School); and Marty Oleson (Southside).
Probationary teacher Erika Palmer will not have her contract renewed for reasons outlined in her evaluation.
In other news, Southside School's "Teddy Bear" drive resulted in two significant gifts. David Pelzer, author of the book "A Child Called It," which inspired the drive, has donated $500 to the project. Also, William Alford of Niles donated $260 to the project.
