Berrien County has openings for volunteers for various boards and commissions

SAINT JOSEPH – The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has announced that the following boards or commissions have positions with terms expiring or have vacancies and are seeking volunteers who would like to serve.
The County Board has a procedure that allows for other County citizens to apply for positions on boards or commissions even though a current board member whose term is expiring may re-apply and seek re-appointment.

The Berrien County Land Bank Authority is a newly adopted Authority in Berrien County and three citizen seats are available on the Authority. The purpose of the Land Bank Authority is to clean up and re-develop tax reverted property. The terms for the three seats are staggered but could range from one-four years. The dates and times for the meetings have yet to be determined but meetings will be held monthly.
The Lakeshore Coordinating Council has two positions on the Advisory Committee which are vacant. The Committee is made up of representation from public and private treatment and prevention programs and organizations; client or patient groups or individuals who have been directly served by substance abuse treatment rehabilitation or prevention programs or organizations; or the community at large, including civic organizations, business, labor, etc. The term is for two years and the meetings are held on the first Friday of each month at 9 a.m.
The Land Preservation Board has a vacancy for someone with a farming occupation and serves as the advisory body to the Berrien County Board of Commissioners with regard to Land Preservation issues. At this time meetings are sporadic but mostly held in the early morning. Eventually, the meetings will be on a monthly basis. The term of the position is for three years.
The Solid Waste Planning Committee has a vacancy for someone involved in an environmental interest group. The general purpose of the committee is to assist in the preparation of the County Solid Waste Management Plan by providing advice and consultation and to be active in the updating of the plan.
Currently the committee is not meeting at all but it is necessary to keep the board intact. The term for the vacancy is for two years.
The 9-1-1 Advisory Board has two vacancies for Berrien County citizens.
The purpose of the Advisory Board is to promote the continued operation of the 9-1-1 Emergency System, to promote public awareness, and to serve in the advisory capacity to the Berrien County Board of Commissioners by giving advice and making suggestions with respect to the overall general provision of 9-1-1 Services to county citizens.
The board meets on a Wednesday every other month in the morning. The term is for three years.
