CASSOPOLIS – In the past school buses idled their engines while picking up or dropping off students, burning fuel all the while. A new directive presented by Transportation Supervisor Charlene Swartz is going to change all that. In an effort to reduce fuel consumption bus drivers are instructed to shut down their engines during pick-up and drop-off times. While it is not known how much fuel will be saved by this procedure Swartz is confident it is a step in the right direction.
The board accepted with regret the resignation of Karah Hiscott, band instructor for the High School. High School Principal Anthony Habra noted Hiscott will help the district locate her replacement.
In other business, high school senior Lindsey Dohse presented her new design for the Cassopolis Public Schools website. Although Dohse is still a student at Ross Beatty her technical savvy has garnered her a contract with the school district for the set-up and monthly maintenance of the website. Anyone can browse the new site by visiting www.cassopolis.k12.mi.us.
Tracy Hertsel, Principal of Squires Elementary invited all in attendance to a fish dinner with all proceeds to benefit the Baldwin family of Vandalia. The Baldwins lost two children, brothers, in a horrible house fire last month.
The fish dinner will take place at the Cassopolis Ross Beatty High School Jr./Sr. cafeteria Friday, April, 18 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the evening.
