Eda M. Christman Curtis, 93, died peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2008, at West Woods of Niles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16 at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.
She was born on Sept. 12, 1914, in Lisbon, S.D. to Henry and Helena (Dittrich) Christman.
She moved to Niles in 1919 and remained a resident until her death. Her last residence was on Ontario Street in Niles.
She was a 1932 graduate of Niles High School, where she was on the track and softball team.
Curtis worked at many area factories and businesses, including Harry's Grill, Simplicity, Clark Equipment Co., the Mushroom Factory and Sturgis Engineering, before retiring.
She was a life long member of Grace United Methodist Church and served the church on various committees during her younger years.
Her devoted husband, Chester Albert "Chet," whom she married on March 31, 1945, in Niles, preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Helena Christman; three brothers, Fred, Edward and Roy and five sisters, Louisa, Ruth (Zerr), Helen (Willis Calloway), Lillie (Roebeck) and Freda (Yaw, Jones) all of Niles.
Surviving family includes her three children, Margaret (Robert) Henn of Lebanon, Ohio, Pat Zehrung of Niles and Charles (Beverly) Curtis of Muskegon. She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at West Woods of Niles for their compassionate care and a special thanks to her granddaughters, Sherry Hudson, who helped serve as Eda's caregiver.
Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church in her honor.
