NILES – The beat rolls on for the Brandywine varsity baseball team.
The Bobcats, ranked No. 2 in Division 3, swept visiting Edwardsburg in the Lakeland Conference opener for both teams Tuesday afternoon.
The Bobcats won the first game 8-1 and then blanked the Eddies in the nightcap, 6-0.
Brandywine (6-0, 2-0 Lakeland) took the opening game victory behind the pitching of Dan Reidenbach (2-0) and the hitting of Noah Udell.
Udell had four hits and two RBIs.
Dominique Pompey, Zac Edquist and Will Coar all finished with two hits. Edquist also drove in three runs.
Cam Omdresky added a double for the Bobcats, who finished with 14 hits.
Reidenbach struck out seven in six innings of worth. Kyle King came on and worked the seventh.
Nick Fedore took the loss for the Eddies, who only managed three hits in the contest. Wade Smous doubled to lead Edwardsburg.
In completing the sweep, the Bobcats had eight hits, while holding the Eddies to just two hits.
Jake Harris also improved to 2-0 on the year as he struck out six in sixth innings of work.
King came on again in the seventh to close out the contest for Brandywine.
The Bobcats scored all six runs in the opening inning.
The big hit came off the bat of King, who had a three-run double.
Mikel Lindzy had two hits to pace Brandywine.
Jon Rosol doubled for the Eddies, who swept Decatur on Monday. Corey Johnson took the loss for Edwardsburg.
Brandywine returns to the diamond on Saturday when it hosts New Buffalo and Bangor in a round robin tournament.
"I was happy with the pitching and defense for the most part," Brandywine coach David Sidenbender said. "I just felt we left some offensive opportunities on the bases. I believe we left 17 men on base combined in the games. We did hit the ball well on the day, but we have to be able to focus and get the big RBI hits to put a team away."
