Elsie Lee Smith, 87, of Reed Road, Buchanan, died at 4:03 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at the home of her daughter, following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Very Rev. Lawrence Bacik of Saint Elias Eastern Orthodox Church in Battle Creek, officiating.
Committal services will be held at the Center Baptist Church Cemetery, Alamo, Tenn. No public visitation will be offered.
She was born on March 14, 1921, in Penson, Tenn. to Ulcie Sydney and Myrtle Belle (Hudson) Hickerson.
On Oct. 8, 1938, she married Robert Lee Smith, who preceded her in death in 1975.
She and her husband moved to the Mishawaka, Ind. area in 1949, where they were antique dealers for many years.
Surviving family includes her children, Peggy (Steve) Hanchar of Delton, Mary Belle Smith of Palm Desert, Calif., Bob L. Smith of Niles and Linda Gail Grounds of Buchanan; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Bessie May Kiel and Ida Elizabeth Gano, both of Memphis,, Tenn. and Virginia Lucille (Wilbur) Warren of Blytheville, Ark. and a brother, William Hickerson of Humboldt, Tenn.
Arrangements were by Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
