It was a weekend to remember for the Positively Dance Competition Team from Miss Kathy's School of Dance as it qualified 100-percent of the dances performed in Oak Brook, Ill., at Dance America.
Members competed in jazz, tap, lyrical, ballet and clogging.
Members competed in both junior and senior dance levels, as well as two solo performances.
The junior jazz group received an award for best emotional expression.
Mariah-Joy Francois was nominated for the petite female of the year award for her solo performance.
Members of the competition team are shown above with their awards.
Team members are Tory Baker, MacKenzie Bunn, Zack Cox, Jessie Dohm, Kelsey Filip, Ada Francois, Mariah-Joy Francois, Marissa Gajewski, Nicole Irwin, Chelsea Laylin-Zender, Kiersten Lieurance, Hannah MacDonald, Brittany Malin, Hannah Noid, Katherine Pielemeier, Sarah Wagner, Claire Wagner, Paulina Yu and Savanna Yu
The team travels to Orlando, Fla., June 30 for the Dance America national competition.
The team will be having many fundraisers during these next few months to help defray the cost of travel and competition fees.
Positively Dance will also have its spring show at Dowagiac Middle School Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 26.
Dowagiac is so lucky to have so many children who excel in many of the arts – music, dance, theater and painting/sculpture to name a few.
It is important that we, as a city, continue to support these students by attending the performances from all of the groups here in Dowagiac.
Watch for more information on ticket sales for the spring show and basket auction.
