NBGSA holding next registration March 1
NILES – The Niles Brandywine Girls' Softball Association is currently holding registration for the 2008 softball season.
Open registration will take place on March 2, from 1-3 p.m. at the Niles Township Hall located on Bell Road.
Interested girls ages 5-17 as of Jan. 1 are welcome.
Please bring a photocopy of player's birth certificate to keep on file (copier will not be available). For more information call Deb Carlson at 683-0786.
Junior, Senior leagues to hold registration March 1
NILES – The Greater Niles Baseball League will hold its registration for the 2008 season on Saturday, March 1.
Registration for the Junior League (13-14) and Senior League (15-16) will be held at the Niles Inn &Conference Center, 930 S. 11th St. from 2-4 p.m.
Cost is $80 per child or $110 per family. A $10 late fee will be charged after March 1.
Tryouts for the Junior League will be held March 15 at Ring Lardner Middle School, 801 N. 17th St.
Tryouts will be conducted from 10 a.m. until noon.
WNIL to broadcast Buchanan game tonight
NILES – WNIL will broadcast the opening game of the Class B district boys' basketball tournament tonight for the Buchanan Bucks.
The Bucks will take on host Edwardsburg beginning at approximately 8 p.m.
Cal Ripken registration set for today, Tuesday
NILES – Registration for Howard Township Cal Ripken Baseball League will be held at the Howard Elementary School Gym only on Feb. 25 and Feb. 26 from noon until 8 p.m. each day during school conferences.
Any player ages 4-12 on or before April 30 are welcomed to sign up.
Hunter Safety Class set to begin Wednesday
NILES – The Bend of the River Conservation Club will hold a Hunter Safety Course beginning Wednesday, Feb. 27.
The course will run from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Bend of the River is located at 900 Mayflower Road.

Dowagiac's O'Keefe wins national championship
MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Bethel College track and field teams competed at the NCCAA Indoor Nationals on Saturday at Cedarville University in Ohio where the women's team placed second and the men finished third.
This is the highest finish that both squads have ever had in this national meet.
The Lady Pilots had two national champions on the day. Anne O'Keefe (Dowagiac) the pole vault at 11-foot-5.75 and Nichole Arnold won the shot put at 41-2.25.
