Dowagiac rolls past Comstock, set for showdown

The Dowagiac girls' varsity basketball team outscored visiting Comstock 32-18 in the first half on its way to a 54-38 Wolverine Conference victory Monday night.
The Chieftains raced out to a 16-10 lead after one period of play and increased their advantage to 14 points by intermission.
The win kept Dowagiac in the thick of the league title chase. The defending champion Chieftains will host league-leading Plainwell on Thursday.
Dowagiac trails Plainwell by a game in the standings.
The Lady Colts were unable to mount any type of comeback in the second half as the Chieftains increased their lead to 42-26 heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Dowagiac and Comstock both scored 12 points in the fourth quarter.
Senior Katy Stuppy, who was honored before the game for breaking the school scoring record, poured in a game-high 21 points.
Dowagiac also got 14 points from sophomore Torie Lowe and six points from sophomore Britnee Allerton.
Taylor Reed led the Lady Colts with 13 points.
The Chieftains are now 14-2 overall and 12-2 in the Wolverine Conference. Thursday night's showdown is scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m.
