Wedding

Janice L. Powell and James E. Rodgers, Jr., both of Niles, were united in marriage Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 1 in the afternoon at the Gore property at Anderson Road and White Street in Cassopolis. The Rev. Emmett H. Kadwell, Jr. presided.
The parents of the couple are Ralph and Mary Powell of Niles and Jones and Violene Rodgers, also of Niles.
Music for the ceremony was played on a portable stereo, carried by the bride's son, Shawn G. L. Wozniak. Ryan R.K. Wozniak, stepson to the groom, served as an usher and also served as the Ring Bearer. Serving as groomsmen were Patrick Lutin, Jr., and Shawn Wozniak, son of the bride.
The bride was given in marriage by her mother, Mary Powell, who also served as the matron of honor.
The bride wore a long green velvet spaghetti-strap gown, with slits up both sides of the dress. She also wore a rhinestone diamond type tiara, a single white veil, a dove of peace necklace given to the bride by Barb Lutin and a pair of black velvet high heels.
The bride carried a bouquet of silk white roses and lily of the valley, which were a favorite of her father Ralph. Boutonnieres were also Lily of the valley. The mother of the bride carried a bouquet of white roses, Lily of the valley and daisies. The bride crafted all of the bouquets herself.
White turtledoves were released into the sky to symbolize the coming of the two into one. Also a third dove was released by the mother of the bride to symbolize loved ones not present at the ceremony especially the bride's father. The birds circled three times in the sky and it was said to have been very beautiful.
A reception was held at the Riverfront Cafe and then at Nancy and Susie's Restaurant.
After a wedding trip to Poplar Bluff, Mo., the couple will be home in Niles.
