NEW YORK – Eighty-four of the nation's top high school football players take the field in the U.S. Army High School All-American Bowl Saturday at 1 p.m.
The game which will air live on NBC from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, gives fans a sneak peek at football's premier college prospects.
The classic East vs. West football matchup has featured some of college pro football's best players, including Florida's reigning Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, USC's 2005 Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush and the NFL's offensive rookie of the year Adrian Peterson.
"With players like Tim Tebow, Reggie Bush and Adrian Peterson having played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, we get a real good chance to look at some of the nation's finest high school players," said NBC analyst Ray Bentley. "Before they make their mark toward the collegiate and professional ranks, the trend starts at this game."
Bob Papa will call the action with Bentley providing analysis. Marty Snider will serve as reporter, and Lewis Johnson will host the event.
The game will also be a deciding factor of which player will be crowned the Ball Park National High School Player of the Year and receive the coveted Hall Trophy.
High school's version of the Heisman Trophy, the Hall Trophy is named after all-time leading high school running back Ken "Sugarland Express" Hall who rushed for 11,232 yards during his high school career.
