ST. JOSEPH – Two Dowagiac residents were arrested in Berrien County's Niles Township on Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, on marijuana charges.
According to Det. Lt. James Hagenbarth, at approximately 4 p.m., an undercover detective from the Berrien County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit met the two subjects at 2362 S. 11th St. with the intention of buying marijuana.
The detective allegedly purchased marijuana from the male subject, identified as Shane Michael Hertsel, 28, of 24966 Lakeshore Drive, Dowagiac.
Hertsel was arrested for delivery of marijuana, and additional marijuana was located on him, so he is also being charged with marijuana possession.
The two subjects were detained and identified by a uniformed deputy with the Berrien County Sheriff's Department Road Patrol.
During the interview of the other person, Stephanie Renee Henslee, 29, of the same address, Hagenbarth stated it became apparent that she had full knowledge of the drug transaction and drove Hertsel to the location with her vehicle.
Henslee's vehicle, a 1999 Honda CR-V, was seized under Michigan civil forfeiture law. She also faces a marijuana delivery charge.
Both Hertsel and Henslee were lodged in the Berrien County Jail on their respective charges.
Neither has any prior offenses, Hagenbarth noted.
