Couple trapped after rollover

NILES – The Michigan State Police Niles Post is investigating an accident that occurred on Friday, Dec. 28 at around 3:28 p.m. on Old 31 and Knott Road.
Robert Alti, 79, of Mantiou Road, St. Joseph, with his wife Mary Deloris Alti, 73, as a passenger, was driving a 2003 Dodge Stratus when he lost control on the snow covered road and ran off the left side of the street and down an embankment. The car came to a rest on its driver's side with both subjects trapped inside.
Berrien County Sheriff's Department Captain Paul Toliver arrived on the scene seconds later and assisted the passenger out of the vehicle. Robert Alti was trapped inside for over an hour and was extricated by the Niles Township Fire Department and transported by SMCAS to South Bend Memorial Hospital.
