CENTREVILLE – A 26-point first quarter helped the Cassopolis boys' basketball team to the championship of the Centreville Holiday Tournament.
The Rangers outscored host Centreville 26-11 in the opening quarter and never looked back in taking an 81-60 win.
The two teams combined for 35 points in the second quarter, but with Cass holding a 19-16 advantage in scoring, the Rangers increased their advantage to 45-27 at the intermission.
Cassopolis (4-2) came out red-hot in the third quarter, scoring 21 points to turn the game into a route.
Centreville scored 16 points in the third period and outscored Cassopolis 17-15 in the final eight minutes, but it was too little, too late.
Kris Morgan led Cassopolis with 21 points.
The Rangers also got 17 points from Nick Davis and 11 points from Raymond Nelson.
Centreville's Zach Perry led all scorers with 28 points. The Bulldogs also got 14 points from Jared Diekman.
In the semifinals on Thursday, Cassopolis knocked off Mendon 58-46.
Justin Jackson led the Rangers with 12 points, while Moran finished with 10 points.
Cassopolis also got nine points from Davis.
Justin Ross paced the Hornets with nine points.
The Rangers will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 8 when they travel to Berrien Springs for a Lakeland Conference clash.
