It’s time to make those New Year resolutions – not

NILES – What's the biggest New Year's Resolution for 2008? Nothing.
That's correct. Most people either haven't made a resolution for the upcoming year nor have any intentions on making one.
This week, the Daily Star visited local businesses to find out what goal or goals people are setting for themselves next year. The answers were short and to the point.
"I don't make resolutions. Even if I did, I wouldn't stick with them anyway, so I don't even bother," Tammy Juniper of Elkhart, Ind. said.
Juniper was shopping at Martin's Supermarkets in Niles Friday afternoon, loading up on different snack items and drinks for her New Year's Eve party.
"We have one every year, just with a few close friends. It beats driving with the other craziness on the road," she said. One idea did come to mind after looking through her shopping cart. "I guess I can do without all this junk food. But I'm sure that won't happen, so my resolution stays at nothing," she said.
Scott Resetar, manager of Michiana Mini Mart on Stateline Road, also has no resolutions for 2008.
"I just take things day by day. Different circumstances can come up throughout the year you can't foresee and it can change things. I can sit here every year and say I'd like to take a long vacation somewhere, but it never happens," Resetar said.
Debbie Ganser and Shelly Linley also said they have no goals for the next year.
"I've never made them. It's just another year that goes by," Linley said.
"Why bother? I can't keep them anyway so I don't make them," Ganser added.
Bill Duimstra, from Holland, was in town shopping for the day. His plan was to visit the different antique malls in the area to see what bargains he could find. As he browsed the aisles of the Michiana Antique Mall, he was quick to respond about his goals.
"Buy more antiques and BB guns. That's about it," he said.
Tracey Glintz and Candace Moore also decided to spend the day shopping at the antique mall.
"Despite the snow and slippery roads, we're having fun," Moore said.
Glintz said she always makes New Year's resolutions, but they never seem to last.
"Lose weight, get in shape, eat healthy – you know, the typical resolutions. But do I stick with them? No. It's fun to pretend like I have a goal though," she said.
Moore also agreed and said one year she actually stuck with her resolution – for two months.
"It was to quit smoking. I actually did pretty good for two months, but I just started eating more. I even tried the pills and the gum, but nothing helped. Maybe sometime next year I will try to quit again," she said.
Ryan Scholenberger also joins those with no resolutions this year.
"I don't even think I have ever thought about setting one. I'm not real big on it. Some people go nuts over resolutions, but not me," he said.
It would seem fair to say that most would agree the only resolution they have this year is not having one at all.
