Dowagiac freshmen top Three Rivers, 56-32

THREE RIVERS – The Dowagiac freshmen and junior varsity basketball teams split with host Three Rivers on Thursday night.
The Chieftain freshmen squad posted a 56-32 victory over the Wildcats, while the junior varsity dropped a nail-biter, 52-49.
Freshmen Basketball
The Dowagiac freshmen team led by only 10 points at halftime, 30-20, but opened up a huge lead heading into the final stanza.
The Chieftains outscored the Wildcats 18-4 in the third quarter to turn the game into a rout.
Zach Hyatt led the Chieftains with 17 points, while Chris Craft added 13 points.
Dowagiac also got eight points from Anthony Nelson and six points from Cody Carlisle.
JV Basketball
Tremail Butcher had 16 points in a losing effort for the Chieftains.
Dowagiac also got 10 points from Damone Huff and nine points from Damone Huff.
Andrew Cripe and Troy Butcher finished with nine and eight points respectively. Cody Cox chipped in with six points.
The Chieftains are back in action Saturday afternoon as they travel to Niles.
The freshmen and junior varsity games will both begin at 2 p.m.
The freshmen will play in the auxiliary gym, while the junior varsity will play in the main gym.
