This needs to be sung.
Three Swedish meatballs, two cocktail wieners and a cheesecake topped with cherries…
It is definitely the holiday season.
The party mentioned above was held at Ross Beatty High School, in Cassopolis.
The special occasion was to honor the long time Cassopolis School Board President Christine Locke, for achieving the Michigan School Board Association's President's Award of Recognition.
The reception, for her friends, relatives, teachers and staff and administration, made and catered by the school district's own lunch people, was wonderful.
So was the annual community Christmas Party Dec. 1, sponsored by the Cassopolis/Vandalia Chamber of Commerce, held at the Cassopolis VFW.
The gifts for all the children and most of adults were great, but it was the food which really made it a party.
Chili, hot dogs and the famous Eby's Polish sausage, thanks to Lenny Kanczuzewski and lots of homemade cookies filled the length of the tables set up to feed everyone.
The Cassopolis Christmas tree lighting this past Saturday had more cookies and donuts and hot chocolate.
Okay that's three parties. Before that, there was the Thanksgiving days of eating.
Now it is the special treats everyday because it's the holiday season.
A table, much too close to the editorial section of the office, has had continual goodies placed on it since before Dec. 1.
Today I would say there were the best cookies I ever ate, made by one of the sales representative's mothers.
The almond sugar cookies had pieces of sliced almond and a drizzle of sugar icing on the cookies.
I can hardly talk about the fudge because it is already gone and I only had one tiny piece.
How am I going to make it through the end of the month?
When I went to do a story for the paper about the Daily Queen at the Stateline in Niles, for our dining and entertainment guide, the owners gave me a Pumpkin Pie Blizzard Cake.
That went really well with the turkey I cooked this past weekend.
I just shouldn't have also tried the Blizzard of the Month – Yule Flip Peppermint Chip.
Next weekend is my birthday and we are going out for a nice dinner with three friends who also have December birthdays.
Want to bet I will have dessert along with a rich entree?
Next week we have our annual employee Christmas Party at Leader Publications and boy can these people cook.
The only problem is you just can't eat as much as you would like. You don't want to miss a dish.
I am sure before much longer a box will arrive from Paul Mayhew, from the funeral home in Edwardsburg. He always sends the best chocolates, which I would rather hide and save, but I usually am nice and share with the others I work with.
Maybe I could just eat candy and cookies for the rest of this month and return to a more normal diet in January, adding vegetables and fruit.
