Vikings go 3-1 to capture Grant Invitational wrestling tourney

GRANT – The Niles varsity wrestling team went 3-1 on Saturday to capture the Grand Invitational.
The Vikings only loss came at the hands of Big Rapids (32-31), however, the Eagles were defeated by Grant to force a three-way tie.
Using a tiebreaker, Niles was awarded the tournament championship based on most matches won.
Niles (10-2) also defeated Newaygo (69-6) and Muskegon Orchard View (65-12).
Going 4-0 on the day for the Vikings were Nate Heirmann (145), Terrance Eppenger (152), Ben Brandstatter (160) and Kenyon Ellison (275).
Posting 3-1 records on the day were Adam Young (103) and Gage Pearison (112), Marcus Bricker (119), Colin Latislaw (130), Cody Durham (135) and Eric Long (189).
Going 2-0 was freshman 215-pounder Mike Gentry.
Niles also had three champions at the Eau Claire junior varsity tournament.
Winning titles were Colin Burandt (112), Chris Powell (135) and Zeke Legus (189).
The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday as they compete in the Eau Claire Invitational.
Among the teams joining Niles will be the host Beavers, Buchanan, Dowagiac, Cassopolis, Edwardsburg, Delton-Kellogg and Hespera.
Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
