GALESBURG – The Buchanan girls' varsity basketball team dropped a 45-42 non-conference decision to Galesburg-Augusta on Monday night.
The loss was the first of the season for the Lady Bucks (2-1).
The Lady Rams, who are also 2-1 on the year, defeated Cassopolis in its season opener on Nov. 26.
Galesburg-Augusta led 17-11 after one period of play, but were outscored in the second quarter by Buchanan, 10-4.
The Lady Rams held an 11-8 advantage in scoring in the pivotal third quarter to turn a 21-21 halftime deadlock into a 32-29 lead heading into the final quarter.
Both teams scored 13 points in the final eight minutes.
Hayley Cashier led all scorers with 16 points. She also grabbed 13 rebounds. Emily Ross finished with 14 points.
Anna Callahan added six points and five steals to the Lady Bucks' totals.
Ali Dawson had 14 points to lead Galesburg-Augusta, while Katlyn Born finished with 12 points.
Buchanan had 19 total field goals, while Galesburg-Augusta had 18 field goals.
The Lady Rams had one more 3-pointer (4-3) and were 5-of-6 at the free throw line compared to 1-of-11 for the Lady Bucks.
In the junior varsity contest, Buchanan was defeated by Galesburg-Augusta 53-15.
Chelsea Adolph led the team with 11 points.
